Cry Me A River
Early on Mom rewarded me for memorizing God’s Word by giving me Christian biographies. When I failed to prepare, I fell back on the shortest verse in the Bible:
“Jesus wept.”*
Mary, Martha and their brother Lazarus often hosted the Son of God in their home. When our Lord arrived soon before He was crucified, Lazarus had been dead four days. Jesus was touched by his sisters’ grief. From deep within His humanity … “He wept.”
What turns on your tears? Weeping can be healthy. This crazy world gives us plenty to cry about. Poor Job lost everything and was falsely blamed. He cried out, “My friends scorn me; my eyes pour out tears to God.” **
What triggers your tears? A dooming diagnosis? A financial flop? Fractured friendship? Prodigal child? Emotional crash? Death of a mate? You have unanswered why’s, but your Good Shepherd will walk with you through the gloom. When words fail, try these:
“I will say to the Lord, ‘You are my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust.’” ***
“You, Lord, are all I have, and you give me all I need; my future is in your hands.” ****
What makes you weep?
