Expectations
Have you ever come across a contronym? It’s a word that has opposing definitions, for example: Trim, Fast, Mean, Refrain.
Expectation can have opposing interpretations. You can have an optimistic sense about your upcoming Hawaii vacation. Or you may have an ominous feeling about a confrontation you’re anticipating.
Every day we have a choice about people. If loving others, the second greatest commandment, said Jesus, is what God expects of us, how can we harbor negative expectations?
Are you expecting the best of the person you’re meeting next? What is God expecting of you in that meeting?
”For I live in eager expectation and hope that I will never do anything that will cause me to be ashamed of myself but that I will always be ready to speak out boldly for Christ while I am going through all these trials here, just as I have in the past; and that I will always be an honor to Christ, whether I live or whether I must die.”
Philippians 1:20
