How safe are you?

You and your BFF have a bucket list item to tick off, so you jet to The Big unEasy {sic) for the Sugar Bowl. Before the game your tummy’s ragin’ for Cajun, so you stroll over to Bourbon Street. Suddenly…

Or your family is in Vegas on The Strip, waiting for an Uber at the Trump Hotel. And suddenly …

For your son’s bar mitzvah you surprise him with a trip to The Big Apple to catch a Knicks’ game. You’re on the subway, heading for the Garden. I feel like the Blue Angels are amping up in your gut as your eyes lock onto a disheveled creature reaching for who-knows-what in his grimy backpack. A creepy grin crawls across his potholed face. Suddenly …

Every day some crazed maniac plows into a crowd, torches a hapless senior or puts a bullet in the back of an unsuspecting exec hustling to a meeting, etc. When suddenly …

These are chilling reminders that life can crater in a nanosecond. JESUS’ half-brother James writes: “…you don’t have a clue what tomorrow may bring.” So how do we cope with the mayhem and violence sweeping our land? Here’s David’s counsel:

“I am standing in absolute stillness, silent before the ONE I love, waiting as long as it takes for HIM to rescue me. Only GOD is my SAVIOR, and HE will not fail me. For HE alone is my safe place. HIS wrap-around presence always protects me as my champion DEFENDER. There’s no risk of failure with GOD! So why would I let worry paralyze me, even when troubles multiply around me? GOD’s glory is all around me! HIS presence is all I need for the LORD is my SAVIOR, my HERO, and my life-giving STRENGTH. Trust only in GOD every moment! Tell HIM all your troubles and pour out your heart to HIM. Believe me when I tell you – – HE will help you!”

Find your peace in GOD’s sincere, trustworthy invitation: “All the strength and power you need flow from ME!” (Psalm 62:5-8,11) “You’re such a safe and powerful place to find refuge.” (Psalm 46:1)

You can be sure that in this season you’ll encounter family, friends and strangers living in fear instead of faith. How can we help? “If anyone asks about the hope living within you, always be ready to explain your faith with gentleness and respect.” (1 Peter 3:15,16)
